In May 2004 a friend of mine  introduced me to the idea of joining Tiscali as an independent agent.  Telefonica had just lost its monopoly in Spain the previous month, and Tiscali were providing telephone and Internet Access products in competition with them.  And the business was being built by network marketing!  The network was already operating in England and Germany and is due to open in the Czech Republic and France later in 2004, and in Italy in 2005.  And an agent in any country can build their business in any of the others where the network is operating.

If you have any experience of network marketing you will know the value of being in at the beginning—and Spain is wide open—and you will also appreciate the beauty of not having to keep on selling products to customers.  Once they have a telephone system or Internet Access they just keep renewing it every year!

Think of the opportunities for people like computer consultants or estate agents, who see customers needing these services every day!  And in addition to paying commission for the introduction of customers, Tiscali also pay residual income based on a percentage of the bills that those customers pay while using their Tiscali product.

I'm building myself a second pension!

August 04:  Well, I thought I was!  But there appears to be a problem with Social Services payments if you are self-employed, even if you are already retired!  So I am not taking any risks—I have been a Civil Servant too long to think that you can get away with bucking the system...
