I first read the poem Warning some years ago when I bought the anthology The Nation's Favourite Poems.  Its philosophy of growing old disgracefully was very attractive and I mentioned it to several people over the years.

A couple of years ago I was surfing the net, and I found a reference to the Red Hat Society, so I followed the link www.redhatsociety.com and, to my delight, I found that some ladies in California (where else?) had started a society in 1997 to reflect the ethos of the poem.  I was too busy at the time to follow it up, but I subscribed to their newsletter and followed their doings and promised myself that I would do something about it when I retired.

You can find out quite a lot about the size and distribution of the Society, the vast majority of whose members are in America, but if you search for a chapter in Spain you will find that there is just one—Red September, based in Sanet, and I am the Marquesa! Follow the links at the top of the page to read about our members and our meetings.
