Peter's first recorded exploit in cycling was at about the age of three, when his mother, anxiously awaiting his return on his tricycle after the air raid siren had gone off, saw him coming round the corner on two wheels!
Through his schooldays he had a selection of old bikes which he wore into the ground, and then, when he started his apprenticeship, he bought himself his very first new bike—a road-racer. He used this until he married, when he bought a motorbike.
In the early 1990s, he was reintroduced to cycling by a patient of his who had been a professional cyclist until suffering injuries in a bad crash. Patrick encouraged him to start again and advised on the necessary gear, and Peter has been happily cycling ever since. And he is now enjoying cycling in the Orba Valley and surrounding areas, where the roads are good (mostly) and considerably quieter than they are in England, and the weather is kinder. He has now conquered several of the local mountain passes and is continuing his training to go for some of the bigger ones.
