This is the latest addition to the Japanese garden—a beautiful black bamboo. We had one in Essex which was growing well, but this one is already some 12 feet tall, with black canes of more than an inch diameter. It apparently needs a lot of water so we shall have to remember to turn the hose on it regularly.
